A restaurant in North Texas is teaming with local police and firefighters to deliver Thanksgiving meals to people who may not have anyplace else to go next week. Jared Chenevert owns Bearded Chef in Cedar Hill.
Chenevert started delivering Thanksgiving meals in 2020 when people were told to stay home during the pandemic.
"Providing food for seniors and those around the community who may not have the opportunity to come, celebrate and have the Thanksgiving we would all love to have," he says. "We want to make sure we share the gift of giving because we all deserve to have just a tremendous holiday season."
Chenevert says he is preparing enough meals for a thousand families. He says families can choose between a grilled or "Cajun fried" turkey; they will also receive side dishes, desserts and "fresh tea, brewed for each individual this year."
"This is going to be just a tremendous year," Chenevert says. "Oh my Gosh."
Meals will be delivered this weekend by Dallas police officers, Dallas County constables and firefighters with Dallas Fire Rescue.
"We'll be going to those who can't get here to pick up their food; we'll be delivering to their door, making them happy, knocking, giving them a chance to have conversations with those in the community and see we're all a family," Chenevert says.
