The upcoming FIFA World Cup already has a legacy project underway in Arlington’s Entertainment District.
First, the North Texas FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee announced the formation of the North Texas Sports Foundation symbolized by a Texan Golden Boot Sculpture.
Committee President Monica Paul says legacy is very important to the region.
“From the beginning, we knew that an event can go on,” Paul said. “For it to be really special, for us to do, it would be a disservice if we didn’t focus on legacy.”
The foundation also includes a donor program.
Donors can have their names engraved on bricks that will be in place around the sculpture, giving the public an opportunity to be a permanent part of the World Cup.
