The National Transportation Safety Board says a Johnson County man was drunk and had impaired judgement when tried to fly his plane last year.
Officials say the small plane crashed nose down into a pasture along South Nolan Road about six miles northwest of Rio Vista. The pilot, identified as 41-year old Joshua "Bo" Kirkpatrick, was killed on impact. He was the only person on board the aircraft.
The report says shortly before the crash the student pilot had a passenger that he had dropped off.
According to NTSB records Kirkpatrick had a blood alcohol content of 0.14, five times the legal limit for a pilot.
The NTSB says Kirkpatrick caused his plane to stall which then crashed in a pasture adjacent to his home.
