The National Transportation Safety Board is now on the ground in Dallas investigating a fire aboard a DART train that sent six people to the hospital on Wednesday.
No injuries were considered life‑threatening, but the incident sparked a multi-hour downtown rail shutdown during rush hour.
Officials say the fire appears linked to a malfunction within the overhead catenary power system or the pantograph - the device that connects the train to the power lines.
As part of the probe, the damaged train remains parked at the Ross Avenue tunnel and won’t be moved until the NTSB completes its on-site investigation.
DART engineers are collaborating closely with safety regulators on the cause and cleanup effort.
In the meantime, limited rail service continues through the morning with bus bridge shuttles running from Mockingbird, Cityplace, Deep Ellum, and Pearl to help riders access downtown stations like Victory, Union, and Pearl.
DART riders are urged to visit DART.org for real-time service updates.
