Officials differ on whether Texas man's death was caused by a mountain lion

The Hood County Sheriff's Office says "yes." But Texas wildlife experts say "no" about a man who died last week was not killed by a mountain lion.

Texas Parks & Wildlife and the Hood County Sheriff's Office are each standing by their story.

Last week, a man was found dead in a wooded area near Lipan. His body was brought to Fort Worth to be autopsied by the Tarrrant County Medical Examiner.

According to the Sheriff's Office, they got preliminary word back from the Examiner saying the victim had died from a wild animal attack - possibly a Mountain Lion.

However, Texas Parks & Wildlife has now released a statement saying there's no "evidence of a predatory attack by a mountain lion at the location where the victim was found,"

In response the Sheriff in Hood County says his office stands "behind the preliminary findings of the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office "which ruled out a suicide and a homicide."

This mountain lion story comes just a week or so after it was reported that a mountain lion had been seen on a rural road in Rowlett, which is about 100 miles from Lipan. Texas wildlife officials are quick to point out there's no reason to think it's the same mountain lion.
