Oncor had workers on standby early Thursday afternoon, prepped and ready to jump into action as the weather worsen. Now, they are working to restore power to thousands of North Texas customers.

Oncor Spokesperson Briana Monsalve says they were trying to be as proactive as possible by having crews placed across DFW, but crews will work through the night if you end up losing power. You can report power outages by calling or going online.

According to Oncor, at least 281,000 customers in North Texas are without power due to the severe weather and high winds, some which reached speeds of up to 80 mph.

Breaking it down, reports say 110,000 in Dallas County, 95,000 in Tarrant County, and at least 42,000 in Collin County are in the dark. Oncor serves 3.9 million customers in the North Texas area.

If you find a downed line, Monsalve says you need to stay away from it and call 9-1-1 immediately.

"Always remember to put safety first before, during, and after a storm" says a social media post from Oncor. "Stay away from storm debris, and if you see a downed power line, stay away and call 911 immediately.
