Currently, the Plano ISD is not requiring students to wear masks on campus or in classrooms, but that could change after this morning's emergency school board meeting.

The Plano ISD board is holding an emergency meeting this morning to discuss Governor Abbott’s ban on mask mandates and to get advice from an attorney.

One parent who is a doctor and has two young sons in the district is urging officials to implement a mask mandate. Her son and other students made a video asking the district to require masks, saying they don’t feel safe going back to school without them.

“Losing even one life is not worth taking the chance,” said one protestor holding a pro-mask sign. “That is why we want this precaution. But we are not enemies.”

“This is chaotic,” said a PISD student who attended the protest with his mother. She called the yelling match disappointing and frustrating.

“You definitely don’t need to mandate it,” said another woman. “Not to grown people who can actually sit down and have a conversation as intelligent adults and figure out what’s best for our kids.”

Another woman could be heard screaming “Sheep!” repeatedly at the pro-mask protestors.

In Southlake, a group of parents that want masks mandated at schools will protest ahead of tonight's school board meeting.

The parents are calling on the Carroll ISD Board of Trustees to require masks and to strengthen other protocols, including reporting positive cases to students, staffers and families.

The one-hour demonstration outside the district's administration building starts at 4:00 p.m. It comes on the heels of a similar demonstration in Fort Worth over the weekend.

The Board will be discussing updated TEA guidance on COVID-19 and will possibly take action on it.
