North Texas parents who lost their daughter in the Central Texas flooding at Camp Mystic testified in Austin in favor of new legislation.
Carrie Hanna of University Park is Hadley Hanna's mother.
She shared the horrifying experience of knowing her daughter was missing and then found.
“The only way the Rangers knew for sure it was her was after I told them she had alternating green and yellow nail polish on her fingernails,” Hanna said. “This is not the first flood, and it certainly won’t be the last. How did things go so wrong?”
Senate Bill 1 would put in place new restrictions and requirements for camps located in or near flood zones.
CeCe Williams Steward is the mother of the only child whose body has not been found. She also testified before the Senate Select Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding.
“We are forced to pray for the day when our child’s body is found and to call that good news,” Williams Steward said. “I ask you to carry that reality with you.”
27 children and camp counselors were killed at Camp Mystic when catastrophic flooding struck on July 4th. Over 130 people were killed during the flooding that struck on July 4th in Central Texas.
