Rockwall ISD parents expressed their frustrations to the school board Wednesday night over the district's handling of allegations of sexual abuse involving an elementary school teacher.
The controversy centers around an investigation that began last November when a 4-year-old child accused the teacher at Spring Elementary School of sexual abuse. According to the district, multiple investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing, and a grand jury cleared the teacher of any charges.
Parents voiced their concerns at the meeting, criticizing the district for not notifying them when the teacher returned from administrative leave.
"Learning about this situtation here, how parents were not notified that this teacher had come back, that right there sets a fear in my heart," one parent said.
The district defended its actions, saying that notification was not required due to the absence of any substantiated evidence against the teacher.
Some parents rallied in support of the teacher, who has not yet returned to the classroom.
"Let us remember that justice is not served by tearing someone down with rumors or incomplete information," another parent said. "justice is served by truth, by giving everyone a fair chance to defend themselves and by standing up for what is right even when it's difficult."
The district has maintained that its procedures were followed correctly and that the teacher's absence from the classroom is a precautionary measure.
