A Parker County first responder lost his wife and two young sons in a mobile home fire Monday night west of Fort Worth while he was working an EMS shift.
Parker County ESD 6 Fire Chief Nicholas Wells said the fire was reported about 9:50 p.m. on Lake Country Drive near Weatherford. According to the department, crews found the home fully engulfed. Firefighters later located three people inside. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
CBS News Texas identified the victims as Alexis Renfroe and her sons, Alekzander Joshua Renfroe, 4, and Cody Lock Jr., 10. Their father, Herstle Renfroe, was on duty with Sacred Cross EMS. Palo Pinto County ESD 1 said he has served with that EMS agency for eight years.
“While he was serving our community, his wife and two children tragically lost their lives in the fire. He also lost his home and belongings,” ESD 1 said in a public statement.
Neighbor Richard Simpson told CBS News Texas the flames were already over the trees before he could cross the street. “There’s nothing nobody could do,” he said.
Wells said Cresson Volunteer Fire Department and North Hood County Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid. The Parker County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin. Officials have not released a cause.
Weatherford ISD confirmed a student from Stephen F. Austin Elementary died in the fire. The district said counselors would be available and asked the campus community to wear green Wednesday in the student’s honor.
Sacred Cross EMS and Palo Pinto County ESD 1 said they are setting up a verified fund and asked the public to wait for official donation details. They also asked for privacy for the father as he deals with the loss.
