Irving (1080 KRLD) - About a week ago, the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex scored poorly on a national survey for best dog park cities. But now, one part of the metroplex perhaps could change that perception.

A new dog park has opened in Irving near the Campion Trail and the Elm Fork Trinity River.

It's called the Paws Colinas Dog Park and is 7 acres. The attraction was a project created through a partnership between the city and the Las Colinas Association.

Visitors will be able to enjoy separate areas for small and large dogs with pet-waste stations, water fountains, shade areas, and benches. It’s open from sunrise to sunset, weather permitting, for dogs 6-months and older wearing collars with current tags.

Pets must be licensed and vaccinated.
