Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched a sweeping investigation into more than 100 individuals suspected of being noncitizens who allegedly cast over 200 ballots during the 2020 and 2022 election cycles, his office announced Monday.
The majority of the ballots under investigation were reportedly cast in Harris County, the state's most populous county and a Democratic stronghold, according to a release from the Attorney General's office. It also said additional investigations are ongoing in Guadalupe, Cameron and Eastland counties.
The probe was prompted by data referred by the Texas Secretary of State, which the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) says indicated potential voting irregularities.
“Illegal aliens and foreign nationals must not be allowed to influence Texas elections by casting illegal ballots with impunity. I will not allow it to continue,” said Attorney General Paxton. “Thanks to President Trump’s decisive action to help states safeguard the ballot box, this investigation will help Texas hold noncitizens accountable for unlawfully voting in American elections. If you’re a noncitizen who illegally cast a ballot, you will face the full force of the law.”
In a separate but related investigation, Paxton’s office in June opened another case into 33 suspected noncitizens who allegedly voted in the 2024 General Election. That referral also came from the Secretary of State’s office and was based on information obtained through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) database.
