Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is seeking to depose several leaders of Dallas ISD over the district’s policies related to transgender student-athletes.

Paxton’s office filed a petition to question Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde, the district’s LGBT Youth Program Coordinator, and members of the Board of Trustees. The move follows a recent request for extensive records from the district.

In a statement, Paxton said school districts must comply with state laws prohibiting transgender girls from participating in girls’ sports, calling such policies “insane gender theory policies.”

Dallas ISD said it is cooperating with the Attorney General’s office and remains committed to following both the “spirit and intent of the law.”
