Plano will host a Japanese celebration of culture this weekend ahead of Japan's first World Cup match.
The event is Saturday night at the Historic Downtown Plano Arts District at 6:00pm.
"Japan Day: Ultras Meets Plano" will feature live music, food and drinks, and what the city says will be a one-of-a-kind cultural exchange.
Grant Hiroshi Ogata is President of the Japan American Society of DFW.
"It's a very exciting time. The Japanese Ambassador to the U.S. Yamada will also be here," Ogata told NBC5. "There is a lot of dignitaries, a lot of celebrities."
A member of Japan's Royal Family is also expected to be here.
"This event is about more than soccer," Plano Mayor John Muns said. "It's about culture, community, music, and creating connections between people from around the world right here in Downtown Plano."
Japan plays the Netherlands at Dallas Stadium in Arlington Sunday in the first World Cup match to be held in North Texas.
