A driver hit a pedestrian in Dallas County on Saturday and drove with the victim's body trapped inside the car to western Tarrant County, police say.
White Settlement Police got a call Saturday night about a driver slumped over the wheel in a restaurant parking lot off I-30. When officers arrived, they found the driver. They also found a dead body in the passenger's seat, the apparent victim of the hit-and-run from hours earlier.
Police later determined the driver hit someone 38 miles away, in Dallas on the I-30 service road near Cockrell Hill. Investigators say the impact was so severe, the victim went through the front windshield of the vehicle and landed in the passenger seat.
White Settlement Police Chief Chris Cook says the driver was clearly impaired, so much so that despite having a body in his passenger seat he claimed he'd hit an animal.
The investigation has been turned over to the Sheriff's Office in Dallas County where 31-year-old Nestor Flores faces charges of intoxicated manslaughter, and failure to stop and render aid.
Officials say Flores has been previously arrested and convicted in Plano for driving while intoxicated.
