As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) rages across Texas, federal officials urged Texas lawmakers Tuesday to take immediate action to curb the spread of the virus, according to a recent report.
The White House Coronavirus Task Force released the report that opened up stating, "Texas continues to be in a full resurgence and mitigation efforts must intensify."
Hospitalizations in Texas have jumped 24% in the last two weeks. Some health experts expect the numbers to continue to rise and overtax the state's hospitals many Texans ignored the warnings and traveled and gathered for Thanksgiving.
The Task Force even commented on the sharp spike in hospitalizations calling it "unsustainable".
The non-profit consumer advocacy group TexPirge weighed in on the report, calling for Governor Abbott to take immediate action. Its Health Campaign Director, Matt Wellington released the following statement, "Texas hospitals are filling up, and that could get much worse in the coming days as the fallout from Thanksgiving gatherings hits. Every moment Governor Abbott waits to take decisive action puts more people at risk. In addition to issuing a stay-at-home order, the governor should work to significantly increase Texas's testing and contact tracing capacity."
