The Preston Hollow Central Market nearly demolished in the 2019 tornado is reopening today after a 20-month rebuild and restoration.
The reopening is seen as a major step in the renewal of the Preston Royal shopping center which was devastated by the storms of October 20th, 2019.
While the Central Market building was salvageable, many of its neighboring structures had to be flattened because of structural damage.
Central Market, owned by San Antonio-based H-E-B, has used the rebuild to expand and improve its offerings including the addition of curb-side pick-up.
“Our Central Market Partners and the entire Preston Royal community stepped up during this time of rebuilding and recovery,” said Stephen Butt, president, Central Market/H-E-B Division. “While this was a total community effort, I am especially proud of our Preston Royal Partners who have gone above and beyond to continue to serve this neighborhood. The silver lining here is that our Preston Royal store is stronger and better, and we are ready to welcome back our loyal customers to provide them the service and shopping experience they deserve.”
Many of the stores 130 employees were able to return for the reopening.
Celebrating the event, Central Market is offering $20,000 gifts to both Preston Hollow Elementary and Saint Mark's School of Texas, both of which are close neighbors.
