At least 23 people were arrested Thursday morning in Garland where a group of Pro-Palestinian protesters was blocking public streets and the entrances to the General Dynamics plant.
Police got the first calls about 5 a.m. They arrived to find cars blocking both north and southbound Glenbrook where there are two entrances to the plant.
Reports say protesters were standing on top of cars, demanding that the plant stop producing munitions. Police say several people have been arrested after refusing requests to stop blocking the street.
Garland Police Lieutenant Pedro Barineau tells KRLD the police support everyone's constitutional rights to gather and to protest and they have offered another location for the demonstration.
But after the protesters refused repeated requests, there have been several arrests. Groups called "Palestinian Youth Movement Dallas", "CODEPINK Dallas" and "Dallas Antiwar Committee" are the organizers.
"General Dynamics' Garland plant is a major manufacturer of MK-80 bombs, including the metal bodies for the MK-80 bomb series. These bombs are frequently used by Israel in its military operations, particularly in Gaza. The action today aims to emphasize that the Garland plant's production directly contributes to the genocide in Gaza, where over 30,000 lives have been lost due to the ongoing genocide," said a release from CODEPINK: Women for Peace.
