The rabbi at Congregation Beth Israel is opening up about the stand-off that ended with the suspect dead and four hostages escaping.
Rabbi Charlie Cytron Walker says Malik Akram came to the synagogue asking for help. Cytron says he thought Akram might have been homeless and even made him some tea.
Walker says the congregation had started prayers, and he heard a click. He says he'd offered courses with Colleyville police and the FBI on how to respond in crises.
He says they waited until the gunman was distracted, they threw a chair at him and he and the hostages headed for the door.
