Reaction to the conviction of former President Donald Trump on all 34 counts in his hush money trial is starting to filter in.

Former Dallas US Attorney Richard Roper, now a criminal defense attorney, says this is historic.

"The jury obviously didn't have a problem with the evidence, " said Roper.

"Coming back with a verdict that quickly demonstrates there was very little dissention in the jury room."

The judge will sentence the former President on July 11th. There will be an appeal. UNT Dallas law professor Brian Owsley says the judge appeared to temper himself, possibly in an effort to prevent grounds for appeal.

"I think it somewhat apparent that he was frustrated with, I think, Trump and Trump's attorneys at times. But nonetheless I think they didn't do anything outrageous that will lead to a reversal."

But he adds the Trump lawyers will, in Owsley's words, throw everything at it and hope an appeal works.

Neither Owsley nor Roper expects Mr. Trump to get jail time.
