North Texas will soon be home to one of the wildest spectacles in aviation that doesn't require a pilot's license.

Red Bull Flugtag is set to return to DFW for the first time in more than ten years on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Levy Event Plaza in Irving's Las Colinas district.

The free event kicks off at noon, with teams of competitors launching homemade, human-powered flying machines off a 30-foot ramp into Lake Carolyn. Creativity often soars higher than the crafts themselves, with past designs ranging from giant tacos to oversized lawn chairs.

This year's Flugtag will open with a skydive from the Red Bull Air Force before dozens of teams take turns testing their creations in front of thousands of spectators.

Red Bull officials say the event celebrates imagination and engineering as much as distance, with awards for flight length, showmanship, and design.

DFW joins a short list of U.S. cities to host Flugtag in 2025, marking the competition's long-awaited return to North Texas since its last run in Dallas more than a decade ago.

For those brave - or eccentric - enough to enter, registration filled up months in advance. For the rest of us, organizers say all you need to bring is sunscreen, a good sense of humor, and maybe a poncho if you're sitting close to the splash zone.
