FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- A Fort Worth Police officer was killed in the line of duty Monday morning. Police say Sergeant Billy Randolph was working at the scene of a crash on 35W near Sycamore School Road.
Fort Worth Police say Randolph was outside his car during the investigation and clean-up when another car drove up the wrong way up the exit ramp and struck Sgt. Randolph., hitting Randolph. He died at JPS Hospital.
"Sgt. Billy Randolph passed away today a hero serving the City of Fort Worth in the line of duty," Chief Neil Noakes said outside the hospital.
Noakes says Randolph had been with the department 29 years and was assigned to South Patrol.
"I've been here 24 years, and I don't know the department without him," Noakes says. "That's a new reality for all of us."
Police have released the identity of the suspect under arrest. He is 25-year-old De Aujalae Evans of Fort Worth. Evans has been charged with Intoxication Manslaughter Causing the Death of a Peace Officer or Firefighter. She will be booked into the Tarrant County Jail on a bond of $750,000.
