A retired North Texas ICE agent is calling for the increased attacks on Immigration and Customs Agents in the field to stop.
Victor Avila from Southlake has seen the dangers of the Mexican cartels up close. He was shot and his partner was killed during an ambush by the Los Zetas cartel while on assignment in Mexico.
He testified this week before a Congressional immigration hearing in Washington saying ICE agents making arrests are only doing their jobs.
"The doxing of our men and women of ICE and accusing them of 'kidnapping' and 'disappearing' people simply must stop," Avila said.
The Department of Homeland Security says there has been a sharp increase in attacks on ICE agents. One report said those attacks have increased over 800 percent.
"I've witnessed what a human being is capable of doing to another, especially a child," Avila said. "I describe it as pure evil."
While there is broad support among Americans of deporting illegal immigrants with criminal records, feelings are sharply divided over mass deportation efforts.
