Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice pleaded guilty on Thursday to two felony charges connected to a high-speed, chain-reaction crash on Central Expressway in March 2024.
The 25-year-old Rice, who played college football at SMU, pleaded guilty to a collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. A Dallas County judge sentenced him to 30 days in jail and five years' deferred probation. He will also pay $115,481.91 in restitution to victims.
Officials said Rice was driving a 2020 Lamborghini Urus SUV at 119 mph on March 30, 2024 when he lost control and began the chain-reaction crash. He fled the scene on foot and did not check on the condition of those who were injured.
“Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas. There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole. I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe, and drive smart," Rice said in a statement. "Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.”
