Former Denton Guyer football coach Rodney Webb is coming out of retirement to take over the head coaching job at Rockwall Heath High School.
The Heath football program has been in limbo since the forced resignation of John Harrell two months after some of his players were taken to the hospital following an intense off-season workout.
Webb's hiring was announced at Monday night's school board meeting. Webb has 32 years of high school coaching experience including 20 years as a head coach with his teams qualifying for the playoffs in 18 of those seasons.
He's also a familiar face in the district because he coached Rockwall High School for seven seasons, taking the Yellow Jackets to the Class 6A Division One state semi-finals in 2019.
In his two years at Denton Guyer, he coached the Wildcats to the 6A Division Two state semi-finals in 2020 and to a state runner-up finish in 2021.
