A 24-year-old Rockwall memory care worker faces four counts of aggravated sexual assault after police say he engaged in sexual activity with a 67-year-old dementia patient under his care.
Rockwall Police arrested Zachary Daylon Yoakum on Aug. 15 and charged him with four first-degree felony counts of aggravated sexual assault, according to the department and an arrest affidavit.
The investigation began after the victim’s daughter reported concerns about a relationship between Yoakum and her mother. Police received the report on Aug. 13.
According to the affidavit, the woman was diagnosed with dementia after a psychosis episode led to her hospitalization in July. She was later placed at Village Green Memory Care Community Center in Rockwall, where Yoakum worked and was assigned to her care.
The affidavit states Yoakum and the victim engaged in sexual activity four times. Three of the encounters allegedly occurred at Village Green. One occurred after the woman was moved to Rock Ridge Assisted Living. One incident reportedly involved Yoakum placing his hands down the victim’s pants in a public garden at a memory care facility.
Investigators determined Yoakum continued to visit the resident after she was transferred to the second facility on East Ralph Hall Parkway.
Yoakum remains charged with four counts of aggravated sexual assault. The investigation is ongoing. His bond status and court date have not been detailed in initial reports.
