Nearly 780,000 Ryobi-brand electric pressure washers sold in the U.S. and Canada are being recalled because of a defect that can cause parts to be ejected at high speed, creating a serious injury risk, federal regulators said.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday that TTI Outdoor Power Equipment is recalling the washers because their capacitors can overheat and burst. That defect has led to 135 reports of overheating in the U.S., including 41 explosions that caused 32 injuries such as fractures to fingers and face injuries, the agency said.
The recall applies to two models, RY-142300 and RY-142711-VNM, sold at retailers including Home Depot. About 764,000 of the recalled units were sold in the U.S.
Consumers should stop using the washers immediately and contact Ryobi for a free repair kit that includes a replacement capacitor, regulators said.
