Saks Global will lay off 67 employees when it permanently closes the historic downtown Dallas Neiman Marcus flagship store on September 30, 2026.

The luxury retailer filed a notice with the Texas Workforce Commission on June 12 detailing the job cuts at the Main Street location, which has anchored downtown Dallas for more than a century since opening in 1907. The entire facility will close, with all employees separated from employment on that date. Some workers may receive offers to transfer to the Neiman Marcus store at NorthPark Center in North Dallas, and eligible employees could qualify for separation packages.

Saks Global, which acquired Neiman Marcus in late 2024 and filed for bankruptcy earlier in 2026, described the decision as difficult but final after a thorough evaluation. In a statement, the company said it aims to optimize its store footprint to better align with customer demand and preferences by concentrating resources where shoppers prefer to visit. Dallas remains an important market, and the company plans to incorporate elements celebrating the downtown store’s rich history into other locations.

The closure marks the end of an era for one of Dallas’s most iconic retail landmarks and comes amid broader challenges for downtown’s retail sector. City officials have expressed disappointment, noting the store’s longstanding role as a cornerstone of the central business district. The move is part of larger cost-cutting efforts by Saks Global, which has announced multiple store closures nationwide.

Local leaders and business groups continue to focus on revitalizing downtown amid shifting retail trends and other high-profile departures. The Neiman Marcus exit is expected to impact foot traffic and related businesses in the area.
