Like it or not, scooters appear to be making a comeback in Dallas.
The City of Dallas made the scooter companies stop operations in September 2020 due to concerns over safety and clutter on streets. A year and a half later, a return seems certain.
Councilman Omar Narvaez formed a task force to study the issue and identify areas that could be improved. Now the transportation committee is looking into their recommendations.
Narvaez says regulations are needed because in the past scooter companies didn't hold up their end of the bargain. He emphasized that if these scooters are to return, then the companies must follow the rules and guidelines.
The recommended regulations include limiting the number of vendors serving the city to three and having set pickup and drop-off locations to prevent scooters from piling up outside businesses.
