There is a new bill in Congress to bolster flood response and natural disaster infrastructure in Texas several months after the deadly Central Texas Flooding.

Senator John Cornyn introduced the Strengthening Infrastructure, Readiness, and Emergency Notifications, or SIREN, Act.

This comes after the July 4th flooding where local leaders in Kerr County were immediately blasted over a lack of any major warning.

"My bill would unlock federal funding for life-saving systems like warning sirens, mass notification technologies, and severe weather sensors, and I urge my Senate colleagues to join me in working to equip communities with the tools needed to help prevent future severe weather tragedies," Senator Cornyn said.

The SIREN Act would allow for audible warning sirens or other rapid notification technology and IT equipment or software for the infrastructure.

Senator Cornyn's office says this measure would work with new state law providing funding for now-required siren networks in disaster-prone areas.
