Fort Worth's unmistakable skyline is about to get some company.
The City Council unanimously approved a plan to increase the maximum building height in Panther Island to 20 stories.
To put that in perspective, that's as tall as the former Pier 1 building that will soon become the new city hall.
"This is just the beginning, of course," says Mayor Mattie Parker. "We look forward to working with the numerous stakeholders as we look through the entire form based code for the Panther iIland district that will be coming up in the next few months."
During public comment, resident David Martinez urged the council to okay the change, saying that skylines reveal the character of a city.
"That's going to be on a lot of the print work that's done for the city -- that city skyline," says Martinez. "So when you're making these tall buildings and all that stuff, take that in mind and say something aesthetic would be desired by everybody in the city of Fort Worth."
For the record, the tallest building in Fort Worth, Burnett Plaza, is 40 stories tall.
