Some area schools still closed, dealing with issues after winter storms

After having last week off because of the weather, many school kids will be back in class today. But not all.

Many districts have damage from broken pipes and need a little time to put things right.


Dallas schools are closed today and tomorrow for both on-campus and online classes.

Fort Worth ISD and Arlington ISD schools are also closed. Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos says one-third of the districts campuses sustained damage due to the arctic blast.

Richardson ISD administrators say Richardson High School is closed for on-campus learning today as are Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet and the Math-Science-Technolgoy Magnet. All students on those campuses are on virtual learning today.

The rest of the Richardson campuses are open but parents are warned to dress the kids warm because the schools became very cold during the power outages and it takes awhile to warm them up.

In Plano, all schools but five resume regular operations today. The exceptions are Clark High School and Barksdale, Gulledege, Hickey and Siglar elementaries - all closed for on-campus learning today.

Frisco ISD says it could be next Monday, March 1st, before secondary campuses reopen. Elementary campuses could be ready for class by Wednesday.
