Frisco city leaders are beaming over the announcement that Universal Parks & Resorts is planning to build a new amusement park near the Dallas North Tollway and Panther Creek Parkway. But some people who live there are not happy about it, and they let the Frisco City Council hear about it last night.

The announcement was made with much pomp and ceremony early Wednesday but just a few hours later, council members were forced to explain the plans to skeptical homeowners.

Some residents are concerned about increased traffic. Others wonder if the park will attract crime or other undesirable outcomes. Others are questioning the use of natural resources including water.

The company says their proposed footprint will be about one-fourth the size of their flagship park in Florida. For now, there’s no timeline for the project. Universal says it's still pursuing appropriate approvals.
