Students in several North Texas school districts returned to the classroom on Wednesday morning, including children in Allen and Denton ISDs.

"I'd like to start by welcoming back our teachers and wishing you the best for this school year," Denton ISD Superintendent Susannah O'Bara said. "I know you have all been hard at work getting your classrooms ready for you first impression with our students. If you're anything like me, you will lose a little sleep tonight in anticipation of that first day with your new students."

O'Bara, who is beginning her first year in her role, said the district expected to welcome 32,000 students and 4,500 teachers and staff on Wednesday.

Allen ISD will see 22,000 students return on Wednesday. It's not the biggest district in the state, it's the biggest high school, with a population of around 6,000 students.

Other large districts that start on Thursday are in Ennis, Little Elm, and McKinney. Dallas ISD begins class on Monday, and Fort Worth ISD follows on Tuesday.

A handful of school districts don't return until the week of Aug. 19.
