Some Rockwall Heath high school students are stepping up to defend their football coach after an off season workout was so intense it sent some of the teenage players to the hospital.

The student are asking the district to give their coach a second chance after the off-season workout where players were subjected to intense physical exercise that caused some to experience medical eposides. But even parents are saying what happened wasn't the coach's fault.

They spoke out at last night's school board meeting, dressed in matching t-shirts that said "Keep Harrel."

Head footall coach John Harrell is on paid administrative leave while the district conducts a third party investigation into the brutal workout. CPS is conducting its own investigation.

At least two players suffered from rhabdomyolysis, a serious condition caused by overexertion that can lead to kidney damage or failure, according to reports.

Parents of the students who had to be hospitalized say what happened may have been an accident, but it's unacceptable.

The district says it's taking the situation very seriously and will figure out how to proceed once the investigations wrap up.
