Southwest Airlines is already seeing the financial benefits from the new bag fee system that went into effect in May.
The airline is estimating bringing in $350-million this year on the bag fees alone.
"Most of 2026, it's about $1-billion a year," Southwest CEO Bob Jordan said. "It's going to really help with financials."
Jordan told KRLD Business Analyst David Johnson that on top of the new bag fees, customers will soon see the pricing for the new assigned seating.
"About 200 of our aircraft have already been converted for extra leg room," Jordan said. "You can see it if you get on and the first third of the aircraft has a lot of extra leg room."
Ticket sales for assigned seating will be available next week for flights beginning in late January.
