Long-time Flower Mound State Senator Jane Nelson has been appointed by the governor to replace Secretary of State John Scott whose resignation takes effect at the end of the year.
On Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott said he accepted Scott's resignation and thanked him for his "tireless work educating Texas voters how they can participate in the electoral process and safeguarding the integrity of our state's elections."
Last year, Nelson announced she would not seek re-election in 2022 -- after serving 30 years in the Texas Senate and representing District 12 which includes part of northeastern Tarrant and southern Denton counties.
With her long-time service in the State Senate, observers believe her confirmation in that chamber will go smoothly.
