If you want to see the Fort Worth Herd cattle drive in the Stockyards, you’d better get there in the morning.
Normally, there are two daily cattle drives at the Fort Worth Stockyards -- one at 11:30 in the morning, and the other at 4:00 in the afternoon. Until the end of July, you can scratch the latter from your to-do list.
That's because the Fort Worth Herd has announced that it is not doing a 4:00 p.m. cattle drive through the end of next month, in order to ensure the safety of both the cattle and the Drovers.
In its place will be a one-hour Fort Worth Herd Experience show at 1:00 p.m. daily, providing visitors a behind the scenes look in the shaded observation deck.
Visit Fort Worth says it's common for the Fort Worth Herd to alter the cattle drive schedule due to weather conditions, such as excessive heat, thunderstorms, sleet or snow.
The daily 11:30 a.m. cattle drives will go on as normal.
