The US Supreme Court is allowing the attempted murder case to stand against a Tarrant County man who tried to kill his former boss in Southlake.
Alan Fowler, 46, a fired Deloitte & Touche account manager was sentenced in 2017 to 20 years in prison for the attempted murder of his former boss, Kevin Lane.
Fowler was suspected of stealing from the Deloitte & Touche accounting firm and was terminated.
Court records show while Lane was out of town on a trip, Fowler showed up at Lane's Southlake home and cut the electricity to the property. That set off a burglar alarm. Lane's wife was home alone at the time. The burglar alarm brought Southlake police.
When police arrived at the home on Berkshire Lane, they found Fowler sitting in an outdoor kitchen. They also found a gun in a drawer and an oil filter that they said was modified to turn it into a silencer. When asked if he knew who lived there, he said that he did and that he was “just trying to scare her husband,” an arrest affidavit said.
While Fowler's lawyer claimed he was about to commit suicide the jury found he went to the home to kill Lane. Fowler was convicted of attempted capital murder and sentenced to 20 years.
