Hundreds of cars lined up at Herman Clark Stadium in Fort Worth Friday morning for Tarrant Area Food Bank's "mega mobile pantry." The food bank was planning to serve more than 500 cars.
Distribution started at 10 a.m. Some started lining up at around 4:30.
"I've got 59 cents in my bank account and two dollars in my pocket. What am I going to do?" one man near the front of the line said.
He said he had never needed help from the food bank before, losing his job in August.
"It's really sad. I'm looking every day, but all the bills are coming due," he says.
The food bank's Michael Polydoroff says demand has remained high, and the organization is looking for volunteers at its distribution center in Fort Worth.
"We haven't been open since March when the pandemic hit," he says.
Polydoroff says the food bank needs 60-75 volunteers each day. He says those volunteers sort food and pack boxes to be used at mobile pantries set up in different locations throughout the week.
"We've got daytime and afternoon shifts if people can spare the time and are willing to come to our distribution center. That's our need," he says.

The Tarrant Area Food Bank says demand increased 65% last year. Mobile pantries will continue at least through May.
