Tarrant County commissioners approved a 90-day outdoor burning ban Thursday because of severe drought conditions.
The ban applies to unincorporated areas of the county and prohibits outdoor burning without approval from the Tarrant County Fire Marshal’s Office. Cooking, welding and fire pits used for social gatherings are exempt.
The Texas A&M Forest Service supports the ban, which officials say is intended to protect lives and property.
Violating the order is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500.
All Tarrant County residents are encouraged to take these precautions and prioritize safety during this dry period. For information on outdoor cooking, the use of firepits and outdoor welding guidelines, go to www.tarrantcountytx.gov/burnban.
