Two inmates who escaped from Tarrant County custody on separate occasions this week are now back behind bars, according to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say both escapes happened within days of each other and prompted brief searches before deputies and police located the men and returned them to jail.
The first escape happened when an inmate slipped out of a transport van in Fort Worth while being moved between facilities. Deputies quickly set up a search in the surrounding industrial area, and the man was captured later the same day without incident.
Just a day later, a second inmate fled from a work detail at a county-operated laundry facility. Officials said he was found about 30 minutes later in a nearby dry creek bed and taken back into custody.
The sheriff’s office confirmed neither escape resulted in injuries to deputies or members of the public, and both inmates now face additional charges tied to their attempted getaways.
In a social media update, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said both incidents are under internal review as officials look at security procedures during transports and work assignments.
County leaders say they are evaluating protocols to prevent similar incidents and ensure public safety moving forward.
