A disaster declaration is now in place for Tarrant County where County Judge Tim O'Hare declares the county is under imminent threat of severe damage, injury, loss of life or property due to the threat of wildfires.

Several fast moving fires have erupted in Tarrant County this week, fueled by dry brush and grass and made worse by triple-digit heat and fierce, dry winds.

O'Hare's declaration remains in effect until July 26th unless it is extended by the Commissioners Court.

Also as of Thursday, a burn ban is in effect for Tarrant County. All outdoor burning is prohibited. A violation of the Disaster Declaration is a Class C Misdemeanor and punishable of a fine up to $500.

Burn bans are also in place for unincorporated areas of Johnson and Navarro counties. Nearly half of Texas' 254 counties are now under burn bans.
