On Monday, we told you about a new clause Southlake added to its teachers' contracts that bans them from speaking out against the district. Now, concerned teachers are speaking out.

The Carroll ISD in Southlake inserted a new clause in teacher employment contracts for the next school year, stating that teachers will not disparage the school district to the media.

Ovidia Molina, the president of the Texas State Teachers Association, says she's heard from some Carroll teachers who say the new clause is too vague.

"We're not being told exactly what we can and can't do, but if we do it, we're going to get in trouble," Molina said.

And Molina says not only does the clause fly in the face of the First Amendment, it's also very counterproductive in retaining teachers.

"We have educators that are wondering if they should stay in education, and it seems that we are doing more and more things to push them out," Molina said.

Repeated calls and emails to the Carroll ISD have gone unanswered.
