A 14-year old boy from an area near Forney has been arrested for two misdemeanor charges in connection with a shooting that killed a one year old girl and wounded a nine year old boy.
The shooting happened at a home in the Windmill Farms subdivision east of Forney. A woman left three children, an 11-year old, a 9-year-old and a 1- year old, in the home alone while she went to the store, according to the Kaufman County Sheriff's office.
A 14 year old neighbor boy came over, and according to the charge, had a handgun with him, the Sheriff's office says. Somehow, the gun fired a round going through the 9-year-old's hand and struck the 1-year old in the head. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Based on what we know at this point it was a tragic accident" said Jolie Stewart, an investigator with the Kaufman County Sheriff's office. "There are still man questions to be answered."
The nine year old victim is hospitalized but is expected to recover from the wound to the hand.
The 14 year old has been arrested for charges of unlawful carrying of a firearm and making a firearm accessible to a child. Both charges are misdemeanor offenses. The teen's name has not been released because the case is in juvenile court
