Officials with the Texas Department of State Health Services are tracking a growing number of COVID-19 cases across the state. They're urging people to get vaccinated to help prevent another surge in cases.
"Over the past weeks, we are seeing a sharp rise in the spread of COVID-19 across Texas. More contagious variants, especially the Delta variant, are spreading quickly," said DSHS Commissioner Dr. John Hellerstedt. "Unvaccinated people are at the greatest risk from COVID-19 and its variants. We do not need to lose any more lives to this truly dreadful disease."
He's asking people with concerns about the COVID-19 vaccines to speak with their doctors.
"These aggressive variants, combined with the millions of Texans who have no protection against the pandemic virus, create the very real potential that the surge we are already beginning to see could be another rapid surge with devastating consequences for Texans," he said.
