Texas State University says a student seen mocking the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a campus vigil is no longer enrolled.

Video from the event in San Marcos showed the student making gestures that appeared to imitate the shooting. The clip circulated widely on social media and drew sharp criticism from elected officials.

Governor Greg Abbott publicly called for the student’s expulsion, writing that mocking an assassination “must have consequences.” University president Kelly Damphousse later released a statement calling the behavior “disturbing” and saying it violated the school’s values.

School officials did not release the student’s name but confirmed he is no longer enrolled as of Tuesday. They also emphasized that while free expression is protected, actions that promote or trivialize violence will not be tolerated on campus.

The move follows days of controversy after Kirk was fatally shot at Utah Valley University last week, an incident that has fueled debate across Texas and the country.
