First three cases of West Nile Virus confirmed in Dallas County

DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- The Dallas County Health Department confirms three cases of West Nile Virus - one in the Dallas area and two others in Garland.

The health department says the patient who lives in the Preston Hollow area - has the mild version of the virus.

In Garland - the health department says the two people there have already recovered from the virus - they also had the mild version. The first person who got it lives in Garland, the second got it while traveling somewhere out of the country.

Dallas County Health Director Dr. Philip Huang says "Mosquito activity and the number of positive mosquito pools have been significantly higher than in previous years. It's crucial for residents to take precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites. Yesterday Denton County reported its first case of the year there. That person lives in Sanger - and has the more severe version of West Nile.
