Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville cut ribbon on $10 million infrastructure project

Three cities in Dallas County are celebrating the completion of an infrastructure project. Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Duncanville worked together to rebuild the area around the intersection of Duncanville Road and Wintergreen Road.

"The engineering of it, the design of it and putting all three cities together in this particular partnership was extraordinary," said Duncanville Mayor Barry Gordon.

Gordon says the area has some of the last open space available for development in Dallas County. He says the three cities working together will help the area plan for future growth while still maintaining the amenities people are looking for.

"We're a tree city, we're a city of champions, and we also take a look at the quietness to draw people here with our education system, with what Dr. Smith is doing there and making our school district attractive as well," Gordon said.

The cities worked with the North Central Texas Council of Governments and Dallas County to fund the project. Construction included a traffic light at the intersection, rebuilt traffic and bike lanes, wider sidewalks and a new bridge over Stewart Branch Creek. The construction was part of the three cities' "master thoroughfare plan."

"Growth and development follow transportation," said Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price. "But it's got to be safe transportation. This was not a safe intersection."

The project also included improved culverts to improve storm drainage in compliance with FEMA and Dallas County floodplain rules. Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Duncanville also built a larger water main to accommodate expected growth over the next 50 years.

"We've got to leverage this and make it work," said Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price. "I appreciate three of my cities who are growing, developing, collaborating, and understanding."
