A new study shows Dallas-Fort Worth has three of the ten deadliest stretches of highway in Texas.
The analysis comes from Money Geek which looked at 10,000 fatal crashes from 2018 to 2020.
Overall, in the Houston area, Harris County had the most deadly crashes of any county in Texas. A stretch of I-45 had 45 fatal crashes in the study period.
State-wide, nearly one-quarter of the deadly crashes are alcohol-related. Speed was considered a factor in more than 30 percent of the total.
The three North Texas highways to make the list include a five mile Tarrant County stretch of I-20 through Fort Worth, Forest Hill and Arlington where 14 people died in 13 crashes.
Then there was I-30, a five mile stretch in Dallas and Mesquite, where twelve people were killed in twelve crashes.
Third, with eleven deaths in 12 accidents, was a four mile section of Loop 820 in southeast Fort Worth.
Weather may be a factor, too, because the deadliest months were October, November and December.
